“Vulnerability isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of self-acceptance. The deeper you honour and accept yourself, the deeper your connection with others.” - Me
My name is Vipul and I’m the eldest of 3 children and I don’t like who I am. But did I ever?
That was the opening sentence of a journal entry I wrote in the summer of 2019.
I was at one of my lowest points in life then.
Since then things have gotten better and I believe its because I finally had the courage to admit to myself how I was actually feeling so I could begin healing on a deeper level.
Until you take the time to embrace the darkness that is inside you (and there is some inside each of us) we will never really be able to fully enjoy the positive emotions we seek. We end up seeking those positive emotions in temporary and toxic ways like a new relationship, new books, new courses, alcohol, drugs, tv, food, sex etc. But the happiness won’t last because it’s not built on a solid foundation of self-love.
And self-love starts with vulnerability.
Vulnerability is about being honest with yourself. How do you actually feel about yourself and your life? Can you genuinely look in the mirror and say you love the person looking back at you? Because for a long time I couldn't.
