Soul Circle

A few weeks ago I wrapped up another amazing Soul Circle call.

We talked about:

👉🏽 Being compassionate as we navigate transition periods in life

👉🏽 The body as a temple for the soul and the wisdom it has

👉🏽 Exploring what a conversation with our body would look like if it could talk

+ so much more!

The vulnerability and wisdom of this group blows me away. Everyone has so many gems to share. We can all learn from one another! ✨

Soul Circle is a monthly virtual call. It is a safe space to pause, exhale, and unwind the story in your soul. We do a guided meditation and have a deep reflective conversation with questions.

Next one is September 25th at 6PM BST (replays available).

A song I listened to while writing:

Clearing

I recently connected with

on Substack and she shared the word Haypaysun with me. It’s a Quechua term meaning “my soul recognises your soul as one”. It feels similar to Namaste which means “I bow to the divine within you”. In other words, “the light within me recognises the light within you”. I love learning new words that embody a deep reverential vibration.

The journey of remembering our true nature requires removing the layers of wounding that cause us to feel separation from ourselves and others.

A Spiritual Warrior is someone who is willing to battle their inner demons. They want to heal and feel more deeply.

There’s a story of Goddess Kali that says she was born from Ma Durga’s third eye when she faced a particularly difficult demon to defeat. The demon would replicate with every drop of its blood that would hit the ground. Ma Kali in her ferocious form was able to lick all the blood before it hit the ground and thus defeated it.

When we embark on the path of healing we become Kali’s tongue, scooping up the blood of our demons (the negative actions, thought patterns, and behaviours that don’t serve us). Step by step we clear ourselves of these things so they don’t bleed into our future. We clear the echoes of generational demons that live in our lineage. We experience a lightness in ourselves as the baggage clears.

This is not a one-off task but a continual conscious effort.

The more I can clear the spilt blood from my past wounds, the less likely I am to project the rubble of my past onto others. By doing so, I can hold higher levels of joy, love, ease, peace, and bliss.

Somatic

There came a time on my path where intellectually understanding what happened to me wasn’t enough. It was time to really feel it in my body to release it.

Until you really let yourself feel your feelings, you won’t be free from them.

Your past hurt needs to be validated by you. The energy of the emotion needs space to breathe. By validating that younger version of yourself, you’re honouring what happened to you. If you don’t give it space, you’re dismissing yourself. In other words, saying you don’t matter. How long will you dismiss yourself before you start to feel depressed? Until that version of you is acknowledged, your repressed emotions (like anger, shame, sadness) will leak out into your life in an attempt to be expressed.

The body is the unconscious mind.

It’s important we allow the emotions to move through us (however many times it needs to) to bring the body back to a healthy balanced state—homeostasis.

Note: I’m talking about expressing it in a healthy safe contained environment. NOT expressing it to your partner, family, friends, over and over again projecting onto them because it feels good to you. That is an unhealthy expression of emotion. It needs to be done in a safe and regulated way.

The process of feeling in this way is Sacred Alchemy. It is a skill that must be practised. By you feeling your pain it is turning into power that is available to you in the present moment.

I was numb for years. My journey has been about defrosting my heart and loosing my body after years of tightness.

Allowing myself to feel the fullness of the human emotion is one of the most courageous things I am doing. It is terrifying to feel rage, anger, shame, sadness, grief. But it is necessary.

I’ve been doing a variety of practises to help move the energy in my body:

  • Walking in my local park. The motion of moving forward is relaxing.

  • Stretching my full body. Especially my hips where I hold a lot of emotion.

  • Shaking my body. I stand or lay down and gently start shaking and let my body take the lead.

  • Foam roller. I roll my back and legs on it to work through the tension. I also lay on top of it and put my arms above my head and just breathe deeply.

  • Patting the body. Gently slapping different parts of my body to wake up the system and get the energy flowing freely.

  • Massaging my jaw. I hold a lot of tension here It’s where anger and frustration can build for us. Take a deep breath in and then exhale and use your knuckles to massage the tension.

  • Yantra mat. This is an acupuncture mat. I like to stand on it or lay on it for a few minutes every day. It opens up the body and helps energy flow freely.

  • Reflexology and Lymphatic massage. Luckily, Hannah is a pro at reflexology so I have access to that! My friend Adriane Roman is an incredible Lymphatic Massage specialist that works wonders! She is based between Berlin and London. Highly recommend.

  • Guided breath work. My friend Ash has created an amazing app called Retreat that has lots of guided breathwork sessions. I’ve collaborated with her to record a variety of wisdom talks to help you along your journey too! 👇🏽
